Overview

Mardi Himal and Khopra ridge( khayer lake) trek can be done at the same time for the trekkers who does have enough time .These trek are newly opened route in the Annapurna Area. In the mardi Himal trek Tea houses are already developed where as Khayar Trek has community( Basic) Lodges.

After 45 monutes drive from Pokhara, trekking trail starts from Kande ( 1770 Meters )and walk along the ridge of rhododendron and rain forest . The first part of the trail is gradually ascending up to the Mardi Himal Basecamp. Which is relatively easier then the up and down of the other trek route. This is most scenic route of Annapurna region. The trail focus the Fishtail view and Fishtail mountain can be seen in different shape from different places of the trek .

In between Mardi and Khayar Trail, Landruk , Ghanruk and are popular route. The trail trun to the right for Kopra ridge from Tadapani . Kopra danda and Khair Lake trek is the most scenic and unspoiled trek in the Annapurna Himalayas. The trail goes even through off the busy routes of Annapurna - basic community run teahouses make the trek cost effective and ethical by paying locals people. This Khopra trek is wilderness route. This is newly introduced trekking area too, which is another highlight among the trekking routes in Annapurna. This is one of off beaten path trek in Annapurna area which is an ideal place for those trekkers who are looking for some days out of the main track to off quiet route. We will get warm hospitality of Gurung and Megar community with pristine culture rural life.

When we reach Kopra Ridge is right below the Annapurna south. From here we walk up to the sacred lake above Khyar, a marvelous alpine experience. The trek back to Pokhara takes us via Ghorepani, Poon Hill for one of the most famous panoramas in the Annapurna range.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu to Deurali (2100m)


Taking morning flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara then meet our trek staff and Car/ Jeep/ Van at the Airport. Transfer from Pokhara to Kande (driving along the ridge of Sarangkot, Kaskikot, Naudanda and Dhikurpokhari ) trekking starting point.After fixing the luggage by our staff trek starts up hill to Australian camp.The trail is good, first slowly up, then a bit steeper to Australian Camp (2060meters, then after an lunch slightly downhill to Pothana (1950m) and the ACAP / TIMS checkpoint, then up again to Deurali (2100m) . Stay overnight at Deaurali.

Day 2: Deurali to Forrest Camp (2600m)


Morning after breakfast at the Tea house.There is a right turn in Deurali signposted “Forest Camp” the trail is through rainforest(jungle)at first up then undulating on the top of a ridge, there is a section just over half way where the trail drops steeply and then slowly gains height and then back onto the ridge and into Forest Camp (2600m) after about 4 hour trekking .Overnight at forest Camp.


Day 3: Forest Camp to Low Camp/ Middle camp (3100m)


After Breakfast, The trail is initially quite steep leaving Forrest Camp but soon gets less steep as you again get upon the ridge, about an hour up from Forrest Camp there is a new teahouse called “Rest Camp “this would make a viable alternative if you arrive at Forrest Camp and have both strength and daylight available – From Forest Camp to Middle camp ,trekking through more jungle with occasional glimpses of Fishtail before getting into Low Camp (2970m) after around 2 ½ to 3 hours. Lunch will be at Low camp. After lunch ascend up to the Middle camp along the Rhododendron forest and overnight at Middle camp( 3400 meters)

Day 4: Middle Camp to High Camp (3550m)


The first thing to mention is that all the trekking maps that I saw puts High Camp at 3900m, where the actual height is 3550m – The trail leaves Low Camp again in jungle, but the trees soon start to get smaller and after about one hours trekking ,broke out of the jungle and onto the open ridge with spectacular views of Machhapuchhre ahead, and Annapurna South to the left. The trail then undulates along the ridge and after about 3 hours trekking, can be reached at High Camp (3550m) overnight at tea house at high camp.


Day 5: High Camp to Mardi himal Basecamp / Low Camp


This is tough day. Early breakfast at 5 am and starts walking along the ridge to the view point( some trekkers prefers paragliding from here) for the sun rise then after sunrise hike up to uppor view point. Form where closest view of fishtail can be seen as well other mountain Including Annapurna first( 8091 meters) . About 35 minutes up hill from the Uppor view point you can reach to the Mardi Himal Basecamp( 4500 meters), Where Mardi peak climbing group fix the camping for Mardi peak climbing . Have some snacks over there and back to the High camp .Lunch at high camp. Then back to to Lowcamp and stay overnight there.


Day 6: Low Camp to Landruk.


The trail flows the same route to the forest camp . Lunch at forest camp then after 10 minutes from forest camp the trail descenddown to Landruk , Which is steepy down along the rain forest. Closest view of Annapurna south and Himchuli will be seen enroute. It may takes about 3 hours to landruk( gurung village) overnight at Landruk.


Day 7: Landruk to Tadapani.


This is popular old trek route. Many trekkers to Annapurna basecamp and for Ghorepani ponhil trek can be meet along the trail. In the begaining trail is downhill to the Modi river. Which flows from the Glacier from Annapurna Baecamp . Macro Hydro electricity power is generated from this river. After corssing the Suspension bridge of modi Khola trek ascend all the way up to the Ghandruk village. Lunch will be at ghandruk. 3 hours walking up along the forest you will reach to the Tadapani. Overnight at Tadapani.


Day 8: After breakfast . Trail to the right from Tadapani ascend up to Isaru along the forest .


sound of birds( Lhopophorous). More chances of seeing bear in this area. Closest view of Annapurna south to the right. Lunch will be At Isaru( 3137 meters). Then walk gradually up hill to Dobato and Overnight at Dobato( 3440 meters).


Day 9: Early morning before the breakfast sunrise trip to Muldey view point .


which is 3640 meters height and located onward east from Ghorepani . It offers 360-degree panoramic mountains views of Annapurna, ranges of Dhaulagiri, Lamjung, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal ,Fishtail, Gangapurna and diversity landscapes of surrounding valley. Back to the dobato and after breakfast trek to kopra ridge( danda) via Bhiayali . There are two alternative route going to Kopra danda from Bhaiyali. One is from via Cistibung down and up and another short way but technically difficult because of land slide part. Lunch will be at Bhiyali or Cistibung. Overnight at kopra ridge community lodge.


Day 10: Khopra to day excursion trip to khayer lake.


Early morning with lunch pack ,day trip to Khayal Barah Temple with day bag pack only .which is located at the height of 4700 meters on the Lap of Annapurna south . Barah- means goddess devi ,Who lives on the lake and protects to the mountain people and Animals. This is the most important temple for local people who does worship function every year before the monsoon. scarifying sheep to the Barah. And also believe that One should not bring alcoholic and buff or beef meet items to the temple. If we bring those items Barah devi will be angry and change in the Himalayan weather ( snow or wind strom) immediately will not allow us to Darsan the Barah Devi.

This day trip is long about 7 to 8 hours. Other small lakes are along the trail. Overnight at Kopra.


Day 11: Khopra trek to Swanta Village .


After Breakfast at Kopra downhill trek to Swanta village via cistibung descending about 1400 meters.Trek along the forest, cross wooden and hanging bridge to Swanta village. Swanta is big Magar village facing towards northeast direction. Annapurna Fang( Barah Shikar) is the best view from this village Other Himalaya Nilgiri south , North and Dhaulaghiri are the view from this village. Overnight at Swanta.


Day 12: Swanta village Trek to Ghorepani .


Short day walk but climb up hill along the rhododendron forest via Chitre. The polupar trekking route of Annapuna circuit, jomsom/ Muktinath trail meets at Chitre . Ascend up to the ghorepani Deaurali( 2800 meters) overnight there.


Day 13: Morning sunrise trip to poonhill (3210 meters) after breakfast trek to Tirkhedunga.


Another very popular sunrise trek to Poonhill. About 1 and half hour walk to the tower. Seen the Himalayan Panorama including, Dhaulaghiri Range, Gurja Himal, Tukuche peak, Thapa peak, Nilgiri south, Annapurna Fang, Annapurna south, Himchuli, Fishtail and Manasalu Range to the north East. Back to the Hotel and after breakfast down hill trek to Nagnethati, Banthati, and ulleri . Lunch at Banthati. Take jeep from Ulleri or hille and drive to Pokhara and overnight at Lakeside( Phewa lake)


Day 14: morning sightseeing of  David fall, cave, world peace pagoda visit and boating in the phewa lake. After lunch transfer to the airprt and fly to Kathmandu.
