Chitwan Jungle Drive Suspended till August

Every year during the monsoon season (June to August), Chitwan National Park temporarily halts its jungle jeep safaris. The reason for this suspension is primarily due to:

  • Waterlogged and muddy trails inside the park making driving unsafe

  • Increased risk to wildlife and visitors

  • Flooding in river areas and vulnerable bridge crossings

  • Soil erosion and road damage, which can be worsened by vehicles

During this period, maintenance work on the jungle roads is also conducted to prepare for the high tourist season in autumn.

 What Activities Are Still Available?

While jeep safaris are halted, visitors can still enjoy:

  • Canoe rides (weather permitting)

  • Elephant breeding center visits

  • Tharu village and cultural programs

  • Bird watching and nature walks (in safe areas outside flood risk zones)

When Will Jungle Drive Resume?

Jeep safaris typically resume in late August or early September, once the weather stabilizes and the trails are repaired.
