Mundum Trek
The Mundum Trek is an off-the-beaten-path cultural and scenic trekking route in Nepal’s eastern hills, primarily in the Khotang and Bhojpur districts. The trek follows ancient Kiranti heritage trails, offering breathtaking Himalayan views and a rich cultural experience of Rai, Limbu, and other indigenous communities.

Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Diktel (1,650m) – 8/9 hrs
- Early morning drive through Banepa, Nepalthok, Ghurmi, and Gaule
- Enjoy terraced hills, rivers, and rural villages on the way
- Overnight in Diktel (small town & gateway to Mundum Trek)
Day 2: Diktel to Chakhewa (2,300m) – 6/7 hrs
- Trek begins! Walk through vibrant Rai villages
- Encounter traditional houses, lush forests & terraced fields
- Overnight teahouse/homestay in Chakhewa
Day 3: Chakhewa to Dhotre Deurali (2,800m) – 6 hrs
- Gentle ascent through rhododendron forests & ridges
- Beautiful views of eastern Himalayas
- Overnight at a local homestay or teahouse
Day 4: Dhotre Deurali to Maiyung (3,122m) – 5/6 hrs
- Walk along scenic ridge trails & open meadows
- Spectacular views of Everest, Makalu & Kanchenjunga
- Visit small Buddhist chortens and Mani walls
- Overnight in a teahouse
Day 5: Maiyung to Rawa Danda (3,426m) – 5/6 hrs
- Trail leads through dense rhododendron & bamboo forests
- Visit local Rai and Sherpa settlements
- Overnight at a campsite or teahouse
Day 6: Rawa Danda to Salpa Pokhari (4,200m) – 6 hrs
- Trek to the holy lake Salpa Pokhari (worshipped by Kirants & Hindus)
- Stunning sunrise & Himalayan panorama
- Overnight camping near Salpa Pokhari
Day 7: Salpa Pokhari to Silichung Peak (4,200m) & Back to Rawa Danda – 7 hrs
- Optional early morning hike to Silichung Peak (4,200m)
- Enjoy aerial views of Everest, Makalu & surrounding peaks
- Return to Rawa Danda for an overnight stay
Day 8: Rawa Danda to Diktel – 6/7 hrs
- Descend through forests, pasturelands & Rai villages
- Visit cultural sites & monasteries on the way
- Overnight in Diktel
Day 9: Drive back to Kathmandu – 8/9 hrs
